5 Must Haves for Fighting a Cold

Here are 5 items I always try to keep around the house when the kids have cough & colds. Besides always keeping Children’s Dimetapp on hand… Some other favorites are VapoRub, you can never have enough VapoRub on hand. Bath & Body Works hand sanitize, they always have them on sale for 5 for $5. Every time, I get a chance, I always go and get those and stick them around the house. The kids love them, they’re always keeping their hands clean, I can’t complain. Also another amazing item is chicken noodle soup, my personal favorite is Progresso’s chicken noodle, because it’s just better than the normal boring stuff. Lastly, Kleenex tissues are always a must!

5 Must Haves for Fighting a Cold

1) Children’s Dimetapp | 2) VapoRub | 3) B&BW Hand Sanitizer | 5) Kleenex Tissues | 6) Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup

Children’s Dimetapp
Cold & Cough tackles your child’s most bothersome stuffy and runny noses, all while working to relieve your child’s cough. And, it comes in a great, grape flavor that kids love. Available in 4 and 8 ounce sizes. Do not use in children under age 6.

You really have to pay attention the amount of Children’s Dimetapp you give a child with a cold. Children ages from 6 to 12 get 2 tsp every four hours. Children 12 years or older get 4 tsp every four hours. You shouldn’t take more than 6 doses in 24 hours.

Children’s Dimetapp is always a favorite in our house, the kids love the grape taste over other medicines that are orange or cherry flavored. I hate having to fight them to take their medicines, so when it comes to Children’s Dimetapp, they’re excited (in a good way). I love the fact, they have different times of Children’s Dimetapp for all kinds of colds that the kids can have.

Children’s Dimetapp Cold & Cough is best for stuffy noses, runny noses, sneezing, itchy watery eyes and coughing.

I needed to read this post this morning because I’ve woken up with a cold AGAIN! I need to go and buy some Vicks, it’s the best thing ever for colds.

  2. These are definitely all items I have for when I have a cold! When back home, I love the Kleenex moisturizing tissues- blowing your nose so many times can dry it out, so I like the moisturizing ones to combat this!

  3. I took Dimetap when I was a kid and now I give it to my own kids when they are sick. As for me, just more vitamin C!

  4. I’m currently fighting a TERRIBLE cold right now and Progresso Soup has really helped me out! Soups and chili are all I eat when I’m under the weather <3

  5. We have miserable colds here in our house – even my poor 6 month old has one :/ Does chicken noodle soup really help? It’s not widely used in the UK.

  6. Chicken noodle soup is definitely a must whenever I’m sick. This is a great list of essentials. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I always have Vicks on hand! Seriously a must!

  8. I completely agree with your list! Especially the soup. I am a big baby when I have a cold and all I want to eat is soup!

  9. This is a great list!!! I give my daughter dimatap and if I’m not feeling well, I sometimes take it myself if we have nothing else in the house lol

  10. its a great info, for this climate season we suffer, good for children, baby and sometimes the adult also..

These are some great items to definitely have on hand. I have a ton of those BBW hand santitizers and the tissue boxes! 🙂

  12. I can feel the start of the cold and this post is helpful, need to buy some vapor rub as thats what i am missing

  13. These are great items to have around especially this time of year. The Dimetapp for kids is awesome and I love they have the different ones for different symptoms. Vicks Vaporub is amazing when you have a cold and I put a lil under my nose to help me breath when laying down. Thanks for sharing.

  14. We have managed to avoid colds and coughs so far this winter. It’s long from over but I’m hoping the flu I caught in the fall is all there is 🙂

I actually use all of these items. We battle colds all winter long it seems.

  16. I don’t use ANY of this stuff!! lol I’m a crunchy Mama. Thieves oil is my go to….you just rub a couple of drops on the soles of your feet to prevent a virus. On the off chance anyone in the house becomes sick, we can diffuse it and take a drop or two in a drink. It doesn’t taste bad (eugh, oil of oregano makes me want to cry lol) and it smells wonderful! Plus it kills germs. I’m telling you, that stuff is liquid gold! lol

I hope you remain healthy during this icky flu season!! Great suggestions!
